Last year, we began an exclusive collection of t-shirts for our crew to commemorate each project we’ve worked on. We commisioned French artist, Christophe Louie (known as Quibe) to create a unique design for Luma that incorporated his minimalist technique and the use of a single contour line.

We chatted with Quibe to learn about his inspiration and creative process behind his designs. Read the short interview below!

How did you come up with the name Quibe?

I just can’t remember. I used to do some political cartoons back in the day and my father asked me to sign them with an alias.

Can you explain your creative process?

It’s easy and quite boring: draw, fail, try again, repeat and again until I find the right path…

Why the use of a single line? Is there a meaning behind that technique?

Expressing the most with fewer means.

What inspires you and your work?

Comics and art. And horses. Don’t get me started on horses.

How did you approach the Luma designs?

Depends on the movie I have to illustrate: I have already seen some of the films, so I can put some personal feeling through the line, but when I haven’t seen it I have to rely on photos and be literal. I draw with music usually. “Immigrant Song” was played a lot when I was working on Ragnarok!

We hear you’re a Marvel fan. Who’s your favorite superhero?

True DD fan – from the beginning!
