Luma 10th Annual Mustache Madness

Every year, when the month of March rolls around, our crew at Luma start growing their facial hair to the best of their natural born ability. At the end of the month, they shape and sculpt their mustaches into rather disturbing masterpieces to compete for the championship before heading out on an epic pub crawl.

So what’s it all about? Our Mustache Madness Founder, Chad Dombrova, provided a bit of background:

Ten years ago I thought it would be funny to see everyone at Luma grow a mustache, so I did the natural thing and used my birthday to force everyone to do it. Hundreds of mustaches later, it’s still a great excuse to get goofy and creep out bystanders. And you might learn something about yourself, too. I learned that I immediately become trailer trash when I have one. Knowing these things about each other’s mustaches is a bonding experience. If you’re of the ilk that can’t grow a mustache, don’t despair: some of my all-time favorite costumes have involved spirit gum and a faux-stache. The most important thing is that someone say “What The Fuck?"

This year, we upped the ante on the contest prize and made sure the stakes were good…. like REALLY good.

The crowned Mustache Madness Champion from each studio won a weekend getaway trip to either Vegas or Sydney! Flights & accommodation covered!

All week long, our Culture squad planned mustache themed activities during our FIKAs, with fun prizes up for grabs! We even force-fed the crew double chocolate oreo milkshakes with lots of whipped cream, which resulted in a slew of disgusting photos.

As the month of March drew to a close, our crew’s beards were getting overwhelmingly hairy, so we took some pretty spectacular before and after shots pre-shave and sculpt day. Have a gander:

When the big day arrived on Friday April 8th (yes, it was extended beyond March and into April this year…the more facial hair, the better, we say), both the Melbourne and Los Angeles studios rocked up in their best (and by best we mean worst/disturbing/creepy/gross/nightmare inducing) getup they could muster to compete for the Mustache Madness Champion title.

You didn’t have to be crowned champion to win a prize! We had other categories that our crew took a good stab at too. Each winner won a custom flask filled to the brim with liquor, of course. Can you guess who won in each category?
